It's a sad day in Cleveland. No, not because some ridiculously paid sports star has gone off to some other ridiculous team, but because Harvey Pekar has gone to that big comic book store in the sky.

What a peculiar and interesting man he was. For more about his life, go here.

  1. I teared up a little when they ran a story about Harvey on NPR yesterday. They mentioned that there was a little memorial outside Carol & John's Comic Shop in Fairview Park. American Splendor was groundbreaking and steeped in verity in which so many of us could relate. What a weird and wonderful man he was!!!

  2. A joke from American Splendor:

What comes after the dining car?

    The Pekar.

I watched a youtube clip of Pekar on Letterman and I love how he doesn't kowtow to Dave. Just straight out speaks his mind.

On a side note, I forgot that people used to use the word "man" back in the late 70s early 80s. I guess that expression was replaced by dude.

  3. LOL!

I love that he was "banned for life" from appearing on Letterman 'cos Dave didn't know how to handle his outbursts.

I guess it's a sign of my age that I use both "man" and "dude". HAHAHA!

  4. You're so retro.

Dude is officially out. Man is back in. (In the VH1 sense of the word)

There should be something for females as well, but what...?

(Also - not the post WWII 1945 - 1960 time period.)
